Heritage Day
Heritage Day is a celebration of achievement in the chemical and molecular sciences. Each year, the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) hosts this celebration at its Philadelphia headquarters, located just two blocks from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall in Independence National Historical Park. The first annual Heritage Day was held in 2002.
The cornerstone of Heritage Day is the awarding of the Othmer Gold Medal to an outstanding individual for his or her multifaceted contributions to our chemical and scientific heritage. CHF also partners with other organizations, including the American Institute of Chemists (AIC) and The Chemists’ Club, to present their premier awards on Heritage Day. In 2006 CHF added a new award to the festivities: the Richard J. Bolte, Sr., Award for Supporting Industries.
Heritage Day 2010 took place on April 7-8, 2010. The festivities included a presentation of the Othmer Gold Medal, the Richard J. Bolte, Sr., Award for Supporting Industries, and several other awards. The 2010 Othmer Gold Medal was awarded to George Whitesides.
