CHF is taking part in the second annual Philadelphia Science Festival, a citywide collaboration showcasing science and technology, from April 20 to 29. 

For ten days, Philadelphia’s schools, universities, cultural institutions and research centers will unite again to put science in the spotlight.

Cupcake Chemistry at the Science Carnival

Saturday, April 21. This all-day event features more than 100 exhibitors offering non-stop, family-friendly experiments, interactive activities, and games. CHF’s in-house baking experts will be on hand to deconstruct everyone’s favorite dessert: the cake.

Truth, Trust, and Fracking

Sunday, April 22. We often see debates between experts on scientific issues that affect our lives and livelihoods. What can we do when the experts disagree but their decisions significantly impact us?

Science on Tap Quizzo

Monday, April 23. Teams square off to answer tidbits of trivia, from the atomic weight of plutonium to dinosaurs to Benjamin Rush. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

 

Science Cabaret

Tuesday, April 24. Back by popular demand! The Science Cabaret returns with another evening of eye-popping experiments that showcase the power of science. Contestants will vie for the coveted golden spoon trophy as they wow audience members with their scientific chops.

 

Science Superheroes

Wednesday, April 25. As the global population approaches seven billion people, our planet is faced with a number of critical situations. Discover what some great minds are doing to help combat these issues, from repairing oil spill damage to curing once-fatal diseases.

 

Meet and Geek!

Thursday, April 26. Meet and Geek! aims to connect nerds of every stripe in a twist on traditional speed dating. Whether you’re looking for love, friendship, or networking opportunities, we’ll provide a playful way for participants to meet likeminded people.  

 

Life, Sex, Death (and Food)

Thursday, April 26. You’re born, you eat, you reproduce, you die…these four acts have been pondered over, questioned, and theorized throughout history. Join historians and comedians for glimpses and interpretations of science past.

Science Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, April 28. Use an iPhone app and QR code reader to discover Philadelphia’s rich science history while collecting clues and solving riddles. The Museum at CHF will be open with special Saturday hours!
