Jason Poole “Supermassive Skeleton Skillfully Secured from South America”

This month’s presenter was Jason C. Poole, manager of the Fossil Preparation Lab at the Academy of Natural Sciences.
Over the course of three field seasons in Argentina, a multi-organization team excavated a super-massive dinosaur fossil that is approximately 66 million years old. The fossil preparation process for its 400 bones began last August and continues today in the Academy’s Fossil Prep Lab in partnership with Drexel University’s Dr. Ken Lacovara.
In between sips of beer, Poole talked about what a “dig” is like, how the fossils got to the Academy, and what happened next. His stories reminded us how badly we wanted to be paleontologists when we grew up!
